Hot off the press - Raglan's 350 action!

Raglan's Chamber of Commerce is getting in behind 350 and the Action Day - October 24th is going to be massive in Whaingaroa!

By combining two events - The Chamber of Commerceʼs Summer Hummer in the CBD and
Whaingaroa Environment Centre's 350 initiative - the scene is set for an awesome 350 celebration.  There will be music, spot prizes, entertainment and shop specials.  Whaingaroa Youth Movement are planning a 350-strong Flash Mob. This event, combined with a ʻ350ʼ junk art installation (which the area's schools are working on!), will be Raglan's contribution to the International Day of Climate Action.

So come into town and experience what will be a very special, fun-filled family day.  Check out and circulate the poster too!  And if you're after more info, or would like to help out, contact the Whaingaroa Environment Centre.

Raglan's already in action!

Several groups from Raglan Area School and our community and Council all took part in Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week from 4-11 September. A handful of keen volunteers took part in a clean-up with the Whaingaroa Environment Centre on Friday 11 September. We picked up a whopping 70 kg of rubbish from less than 2 km of road side. The majority of the waste was brown beer bottles, all 60 of them! This was followed by plastic bottles, plastic packing and chip packets.

The sorting and auditing of the mountains of rubbish took place outside the Whaingaroa Environment Centre at the Town Hall, much to the interest of passers by who stopped and exclaimed at the amount of litter that had come from less then 2 km of roadside.

Thanks to all volunteers who cleaned up in the annual event!

The next step for Whaingaroa Environment Centre is to collaborate with local artists, school students and community members to make an art junk installation with the rubbish we have collected. The installation will have a “350” theme If you would like to be involved, please pop in to Whaingaroa Enviroment Centre in the town hall. Many thanks to the Arts Council and the Old Arts School who are helping to support this project.  Date of junk installation to be confirmed soon...

Watch this space for October 24th action!  Apparently Bow St. will be the place to be...!
